Indigenous Coaching Development Program (ICDP)
The ISCNWT is interested in helping to build partnerships with Territorial Sports Organizations (TSO's) and communities to enhance the number of trained and confident Indigenous coaches in the North.
The Indigenous Coaching Development Program (ICDP) has been designed to help Territorial Sport Organizations fund, mentor, identify, and develop Indigenous coaches from communities across the NWT.

Take a Kid Trapping and Harvesting
In partnership with the Department of Environment and Climate Change and MACA, this funding program is designed to introduce school-age youth in the Northwest Territories to the traditional harvesting practices of hunting, trapping, fishing and outdoor survival. NGO Stabilization Fund
The NGO Stabilization Fund provides special funding to non-governmental organizations (NGO) who deliver critical GNWT funded programs or services to the public, to stabilize or develop their capacity to manage programs and services. Volunteer Recognition Funding
The Volunteer Recognition Policy allows community governments to promote and encourage community volunteerism through planned community recognition events. Community governments can apply annually for contributions up to one thousand dollars ($1000) per year for eligible costs related to hosting community recognition events. Volunteer Organization Development Contributions
Volunteer organizations rely on skilled volunteers and staff to manage their organizations. MACA supports building the capacity of the voluntary sector by providing funding to volunteer organizations and volunteers for organization development and training. Children and Youth Resiliency Program
The NWT Youth Corps Program is designed to assist youth serving organizations with programs that offer a structured and varied program of outdoor/cultural/ environmental, educational, work, life, and personal growth experiences that challenge, engage, reward, and recognize youth. The programs must be designed to improve the outlook and opportunities for youth and help them choose to become healthy, educated people who are able to make responsible personal choices. Youth Centres Initiative Program
The Department provides financial support to assist with the operating costs of youth centres or other community based facilities that provide youth with positive and healthy lifestyle programs. Contact: youth_and_volunteer@gov.nt.ca for more information.
After School Physical
The Youth Contribution Program supports initiatives that promote positive lifestyles and improve the quality of life and well-being of youth in their communities. This program has been used to support youth to travel to youth conferences and to engage in various learning opportunities, other than sporting events. Local Sport Leaders Program
The Local Sport Leader Program is used to build the capacity of our communities in sport and coaching by funding initiatives aimed at developing local sport leaders through partnerships with Territorial Sport Organizations and community organizations. After School Physical
Activity Program Funding is provided to schools to build on existing programs or create new physical activities for school-aged children and youth during the after-school time period with a strong focus on engaging currently inactive or underactive youth. Children and youth who are already highly active are encouraged to participate in after-school activities as youth leaders and peer-to-peer role models. Regional Youth Sport Events (RYSE)
The Regional Youth Sport Events Program provides financial support to sport and recreation organizations and school authorities to organize and host regional youth sports events. The intent of the program is to strengthen local programming, support athletes and coaches in smaller communities, and to improve youth participation in physical activity. Recreation and Sport Contribution Program
The Recreation and Sport Contributions Program provides financial assistance to community governments and territorial and regional recreation and sport organizations to provide recreation and sport programs and services to residents and members. Beaufort Delta and Sahtú Regions
Regional Sport Development Program and Professional Development and Training Fund Community members and organizations can apply to the Regional Sport Development Program for funding to support local sport programming that leads to positive, healthy lifestyles. Communities can also apply to the Professional Development and Training Fund to support building local capacity in order to provide quality recreation services. Apply anytime. Rising Star
Sport North Federation Rising Star Guidelines The Rising Star program is intended to provide athletes with financial assistance to participate in sport. OPTION 1 - PROGRAM REGISTRATION FEES • Open to athletes participating in a program which meets the guidelines of the FUNdamentals stage in the Long-Term Development Guidelines. Target age: boys approximately 6-9 years, and girls approximately 6-8 years old. • Only program registration fees will be covered under this option. Sport North reserves the right to cap the total amount of funding per applicant. The sport program must be in the NWT. • Recipients of this funding will be required to provide a letter from the sport confirming your registration in the program. OPTION 2 – CAMP REGISTRATION FEES • Open to athletes participating in a camp which meets the guidelines of the Train-to-Train stage in the Long-Term Development Guidelines. Target age: males from approximately 12-16 and females from approximately 11-15 years of age. • A portion of registration fees, transportation and accommodations may be covered through this program. • Recipients of this funding will be required to submit an Athlete Report once the camp is completed. OPTION 3 – TERRITORIAL SPORT ORGANIZATION (TSO) CAMP GRANT • Open to all TSOs in good standing with Sport North Federation. • Funding is to assist in organizing and delivering camps that require specialized support. High Performance Athlete Grant
Sport North and the Department of Municipal & Community Affairs (GNWT) have teamed up provide financial support to high performance athletes from the NWT for sport training, equipment, and other eligible expenses. KidSport™
KidSport™ believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sport. KidSport™ provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport. Grants up to $500.00 are available per child (18 years old and younger) per year and can be used to assist with sport registration fees and equipment. The maximum annual family income varies depending on the region of residency and the number of children living at home. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Mackenzie Recreation Association
The MRA is pleased to provide funding for regional or community recreation events and professional development opportunities. The purpose is to support quality recreation services within the MRA region, increase opportunities for community members of all ages, and build capacity within the communities. Youth Employment Experience Program
The NWTRPA is working with the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) to deliver Government of Canada funding to support job placements for youth in recreation, particularly those facing barriers to employment. The CPRA Youth Employment Experience program provides direct financial support to local governments and community-oriented nonprofits to hire youth (via 100% wage subsidies) and to pair them with a mentor who can support them throughout their placement (via $4000 wage subsidies). Get Active Grants
Get Active funds events that get people physically active in the NWT. For Winter Get Active grants, organizations are encouraged to apply for $750 (for community events) or $1000 (for elder events) to organize and deliver three community-oriented physical activity events. The application period is from early September to early October and all events must be completed before mid-March. For June Get Active grants, organizations are encouraged to apply for $400 (for community event) or $500 (for elder event) to organize and deliver one community-oriented physical activity event in the month of June. The application period starts beginning of May and ends at the end of May. All events must be held in the month of June during June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM) Recipients can use the grant for purchasing or renting equipment, event promotion and advertising, rental space, instructor fees, and providing healthy snacks. Elders in motion
Elders in Motion is a made-in-the-NWT program that provides training and support for community groups interested in developing recreation programs for elders. The goals of Elders in Motion are to improve access to physical activity opportunities and increase or maintain the independence and functional mobility of NWT elders. The Community Development Program
The Community Development Program was designed to assist communities with sport, recreation and cultural activities that are meaningful and beneficial to the community and its participants. Our goal is to work with organizations and/or communities to build capacity in their programming to get residents active. We strive to remove as many barriers as possible to ensure everyone has access to sport and recreation. The Indigenous Sport Circle of the NWT (ISCNWT) is working to create strong partnerships with volunteers, recreation leaders, schools, and Territorial Sport Organizations.
